Homework 1 - Weekly Assignments and Budgets
Weekly Assignments
You will be responsible each week for reading the chapters or sections
indicated on the
calendar
for each book. When reading The Other Wes Moore, take Cornell Notes on
the chapter. You will have to turn in the set of notes for the entire book as
part of your FYE Binder at the end of the quarter. A recommended technique for
taking notes on this book is to have one set of notes for the author Wes Moore
and one set of notes for the other Wes Moore (either separate pages or use the
front of the page for one and the back of the page for another). You might also
wish to note the year the chapter happened and how old each Wes Moore was at
that time.
Note that the calendar page lists the book chapters on the weeks they are
DUE. That means you will need to read Chapter 1 by next Monday (week
2), Chapter 2 by Mon Sep 26th (week 3), and so on. You may also wish to keep
an electronic copy of your notes, as a similar assignment may be given in your
ENGL 110 class.
Budgets
Look at the sample budget form provided on page 68 (Chapter 5) of Runner Life.
From now until Week 7 (when we will cover this chapter), begin keeping track
of your income and expenses, including cash purchases. Keep every receipt and
a running tally for each expense category (feel free to add more categories
if you have other expenses like a pet). There are several websites and apps
that can help you keep track of this. You can also use a spreadsheet or
database to help you track this. We will use this data in the assignment for
Chapter 5 to derive a budget that makes sense for your actual income and
expenses.
