CS 270 (Intro to CAD for Engineering) is an elective in the CIS track.
Due to severe time conflicts between Physics and Computer Science
courses, you may substitute Physics 201 and Physics 202 OR Chemistry
211 and Chemistry 212 for Physics 221 and Physics 222.
You may substitute an upper division math class (such as Math 440) for
Physics 222 if you are close to graduating and have a course conflict.
If you are short 2 units in the elective category of
the CIS track, those units will be waived.

A Computer Science major who has reached CMPS 222 does
not need to take Math 222 (the lab component to MATH 202).
If a Computer Science course that you need to graduate
(whether elective or required) is not offered during the year in which
you graduate,
you may replace that course with any 300 or 400-level Computer Science
course. A required or elective course that is offered during the
year in which you graduate cannot be replaced.
Mathematics 206 may be substituted with
either Mathematics 204 or 205.
Some prerequites are incorrect in Banner and in the
catalog. Refer to this list for the correct
course prerequisites.
If you are in the CIS track and are taking a minor, you
can use all units of your minor (up to 30 units) to replace
the 40 units of elective CS courses.
If you are a transfer student from Bakersfield College and
you have taken COMS B25 "Programming with C", COMS B35 "OOP and Data Structures with C++" and COMS B41 "Introduction to Assembly" , you will have satisfied
all lower division requirements in our major except "Discrete Structures".
If you are on the CIS track you
will also receive credit (as electives) for COMS B41 "Introduction to
Linux" (3 units to replace CMPS 216) and COMS B27 "Introduction to Assembly" (5 units). This also means that you have satisfied the lower division requirements
for a minor and need only take two upper division courses.
CMPS 371 "Graphics" is no longer required in the Computer
Science track. This change is in effect immediately for the 2005-2007 catalog.
If you have already taken Graphics, you may use this course as an elective in
the Computer Science track. The number of units has thus been reduced by 5.
Advanced Engineering Mathematics 206 will not be offered this Spring (as is listed in the 2005-2007 Catalog). Since this course is required for students graduating in the Hardware Track I, the following courses may be taken as a replacement:
Mathematics 205 - Ordinary Differential Equations

Mathematics 204 - Vector Calculus
Math 190 is a 7 unit class that contains the
same material as Math 191. If a student completes Math 190 or Math 191
with a solid grade and is comfortable with logs and exponents, he/she
can jump into Math 192. Math 190 or Math 191 will suffice as a
prerequisite for CMPS 221 and is sufficient as the required math course
for the CIS track.
Experiential Studies credit
will count for elective units in the CIS track.
The pre-requisite for CMPS 221 matches the math department's
prerequisite for Math 191, which is one of the following:
Credit for Math 90
Credit for Math 85 AND an appropriate score on the Precalculus Readiness Test
an appropriate score on the ELM, SAT or ACT.
Linear Algebra from Bakersfield
College meets our Linear Algebra requirement.
General Education Information.
The General Education Theme 1
requirement is waived for all CS majors.
CS majors beginning with the 2003-2005 catalog must take Phil 316 (Professional
Ethics) to satisfy the Theme 2 requirement. CS majors taking physics satisfy Area B2 and B3. Area B4 is satisfied for all CS majors.
Students under the old catalog who lack CMPSC 215 (3 units) need to take CMPSC 150 (1 unit) and CMPSC 335 (5 units). CMPSC 335
replaces the Software Engineering Design course (3 units). The extra
2 units from CMPSC 335 and the 1 unit from CS 150 will replace the
3 units from CMPSC 215. CMPS 220 (no longer offered) will need to be
replaced by any valid 200 - 400 level elective.

Students are advised to take CS300 before any
upper-division courses. Track II students are advised strongly to take
CS300 as an elective.
The prerequite for 221 is Math 90 or satisfaction
of the Entry Level Mathematics requirement.
